Will there be a cost involved in counselling?

As Nexus is a charity our funding is limited.  We do ask for a donation if this is possible, but NO-ONE will be refused counselling if this is beyond our clients means.

I am fifteen.  Can I attend NEXUS for counselling?

No, The legal age of consent in Northern Ireland is 16, therefore we cannot offer one to one counselling to anyone under that age.

How is counselling going to help?

  • Firstly the client will reach the point when they understand it was not their fault.
  • Secondly the client will work to understand the consequences of the abuse on their lives.
  • Lastly, the client will change the direction of their thinking, becoming more positive and assertive.

I was abused years ago.  Can you still help me?

Most of our clients have been abused as children.  NEXUS will help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to a healthy future.

What if I don’t want to report my abuser?

Our prime concern is YOU, the client.  We will not ask you to report your perpetrator, but if you should feel you want to go through the prosecution process, we will help every step of the way. However, if it is revealed that the abuser is still in contact with children, we are ethically obliged to report this.

What if I don’t like counselling, or don’t like my counsellor?

Many people undertake counselling before they are ready.   If you feel you wish to stop, we will be happy to welcome you back when you feel the time is right.

If a client does not like their counsellor or feels they have not “clicked”, they need to let the secretary or manager know.  We will arrange for you to attend another counsellor.  It is in your best interest to be happy with your counsellor,  we will do all we can to accommodate you.
